I've been having intermittant pain for quite a while. Lately, it seems to be getting worse, but that might just be because I'm no longer taking an Ibruproffin every couple of days. Nothing in particular seems to trigger it, and it doesn't always occur at the same location. Right now, it seems to be mostly at the extraction site of my lower left wisdom tooth, which I had removed about six months ago, but there's a bit of pain a couple of teeth over, and sometimes it's on the top, and sometimes it's even on the right side of my mouth.
The pain is fairly dull, and seems to be helped if I either rinse with mouthwash, or massage my gum, ir stick my fingernail between two of my teeth (not always the same two). It also sometimes helps to eat something, or just move my jaw. Nothing seems to work 100% of the time, however, and since it normally only hurts for a few minutes, it might just be a coincidence. I'm also currently feeling a bit of a tingly feeling in my left cheek.
I don't expect you to be able to diagnose this over the internet, but I'm having problems getting myself ready to call my dentist. I keep having a vision that they'll say they don't know what it is and recommend doing root canals starting with the most bothersome tooth. It's not so much the prospect of having a root canal, but just the feeling that they'll do it and I'll still hurt afterwards.
So, I guess my question is what can I expect if I see the Dentist about this? I've prepped for other work by reading up on the internet, but I'm not finding descriptions of pain like mine. What should I know before I go? What questions should I expect they will ask? Is there any way they would know that I need a root canal? Is there anything you can say to calm my nerves enough to dial the phone?
Thank you!

Nothing cut it. I was taking Prescription Ibruprofin and something perscription left over from the last time I complained. I still wanted to die. Monday I called in, and was given an appointment for Friday, but I asked them to put me on the list if there were any cancelations. By the time we hit Wednesday (when my daughter had an appointment to have her teeth sealed, I had an appointment for Thursday morning. When I showed up, with my glass of cold water because that helped, they said they were trying to fill a spot that freed up that afternoon, and asked if I wanted it. They didn't need to ask twice.![Group Hug [smiley=grouphug.gif] [smiley=grouphug.gif]](/forum/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/dfcsmilies/grouphug.gif)
