My weird extraction. Advice please!

So. I've recently had my lowers and uppers pulled for the denture process. I've been in, what i would think, more pain then most. I've read everywhere that the pain should stop 2-3 days after the extractions however, the uppers have been pulled 15 days ago and just stopped hurting about 3 or 4 days ago.

The lowers are what i'm really worried about. It was done about 8 days ago and i'm in more pain then i can really handle. I'm so positive i have dry socket however this pain comes and goes. its really strange. My dentist told me everything looks like its healing and he doesnt see any reason for the pain. The pain is especially bad late at night. It usually wakes me up around 4 am and subsides around 7 or 8. I've also noticed this pain does go away with decent pain pills(the kind i got from the dentist, over the counter doesnt do anything for it)

So i did go to the dentist two days ago and he told that food might be getting caught up in the healing holes and causing the pain. He gave me a water syringe to clean out my gums and suggested i continue the salt water rinses.

I don't want a super long post so ill just stop here. My question are;

1. Is this pain really normal? The pain fills dull and throbbing but very intense and comes and goes quite randomly.

2. The syringe i was given to clean out the gums ive been using. I notice that there are white spots covering some of my gums. They seem to come out of my gums with a little water but they are huge! I'm worried cause i can find info on it, From what ive read it sounds like "granulation tissue" but i cant find any info suggestion it should come out so easily. this has happened about 4 or 5 times. it comes back a lot! and it does seem to help with the pain when its gone.

It sounds normal. In some cases the tissues around the extraction sites need long time to heal.

I think it is not granulation tissue but keratin, but in any case, i suggest to rinse the area as little as possible and very gently. The healing process needs to stay stable and should be left in peace. I am not contradicting your dentist's instructions, just advise to do it gently.

Dr Daniel. Thank you for replying and your words are very comforting. But when i look at pictures of keratin(the few there are and pictures of granulation tissue. It looks so much more like the tissue. When its in my mouth it appears to be white but when its out it looks more brownish red color. This has been happening for a couple days and i'm starting to get really nervous and considering stopping use of the water syringe completely.

I've not read any case where a dentist has given someone a syringe for cleaning. I feel like im doing something wrong ><

Well, I never gave a syringe cause I don't find it really helpful. The most important thing is to aoivd pain. Meaning that if it painful, you are doing something wrong.

I think the main problem im having is im not sure what causes pain and what doesn't. The pain happens so random its hard to tell if im having any cause on it or not. I have noticed increased pain after using the syringe. But i also sometimes notice the pain immediately stops after using it. It definitely hasn't felt like its getting better and were coming on the 9th day since the extractions of the lower. Not getting worse. but not better either.
