Pain in filling (Bottom right)

I tried to avoid it, knew I had a cavity (2 between the teeth). Did the white filling and wa-la, done. Now the results...one went fine no problems....now the second. (It is the bottom tooth, near front *big one* on right side). I dont remember the dentist saying they were big cavities, but not small either, I guess if we can on the 1-10 scale (1 being a dot, 10 being HUGE) id give the left one a 4, and the right one *w slight pain* a 5.5, a little over average. *Best way I can describe it*

I go back Monday *Which at this point i'd almost rather avoid and live with it because if it is what Im thinking, there is no way I can afford 'it'.*

Tried the hot test, fine. Drinking cold liquids fine *Unless it is purely frozen, but my teeth are sensitive.*

The problem is when I tap on it, there is a very null pain, nothing to cry over, and when I bite a hard object, no pain, when i let off the hard object, small pain. I have noticed it had gotten even a little better when doing this which is....idk a good sign, maybe weird? But even after I take it off the pain linquors, Nothing bad, just a dull pain, nothing sharp. I got it filled July 6th (Now it is July 25th, go on the 27th)

I dont have really a dental phobia, even though I get scared to go. It really isnt the "dental" phobia. It is more a "money" phobia. (I swear by the end of my life ill be the filling king.)

Also, I heard gettin the bite adjusted, and then what happens if that doesnt work? Apprently from what Ive read, it is the dreaded 'it'....the root canal. There is no way I can afford it, so here is the probably insane question. Can you just live with it? (Maybe not forever, but a year, maybe 2 until hopefully the economy improves or someone feels like doing it free)
I have known people who have had huge cavities, and simply living with it. Once again, I know maybe Ill get a root canal eventually, this economy, my dental plan, I just dont have 1,000 to throw down.


Im 26 btw, and there is my situation.

Well any answers appreciated.

BTW, the quicker way of asking questions:
1. Is getting the bite adjusted only other option before a root canal *except extraction.*
2. If you have slight pain when tapping the filled tooth or putting pressure, what are all my options?
3. Can you live with it for awhile atleast to avoid the extraction *if that is the only option available besides a root canal*
4. If it is a root canal, how long can I just live with it. Atleast a decent range....like 6 months to two years, etc.
5. Could this tooth just be taking longer to heal than usual? That can happen, right?

Thanks for any answers, and if these questions arent cut and clear sorry, just a tad nervous I suppose.

I had lots of white fillings one of mine was right at the back and it hurt like you described for a good few days after having it done i asked my dentist and he said leave it to settle so i did and the pain went completely nothing there now its been fine ever since just a small pain when i put pressure on it after it was first done.
yours might be the same and you might find that in a couple of days it will feel lots better.

Thanks so much, I hope youre right. Ive just heard sometimes it can take longer than 3 weeks to heal, so I hope youre right.

For some reason things always seem for me to take longer to heal, IDK why. Im just so paranoid of a root canal, strictly money issues. Plus im 26 bachelor, the last thing I want is a tooth extracted, just seems a lot of people like pretty teeth and me, ugh.

This has made me even more depressed and sadder than usual. Someone also suggested try re-shaping it, and I heard somewhere it took someone 3 months for a tooth to fully heal and they still have sensitivity. Maybe this is just gonna be overly sensitive *I rarely bit on this tooth, and if I leave it alone, usually, it wont
hurt. Unless I have a REALLY freezing cold drink, tap on it purposely, or Bite down for 5-10 seconds, and once again during the bite nothing, but when you take the pressure off a small pain.

Ive heard so many negative things towards a root canal, and id rather have a sharp-dull pain rather then a root canal treatment.

If anyone else has an opinion please tell me, because this is really taking over everything I do. Cant concentrate, write anything, or pretty much function. Things like this just really eat me alive, with worry.

Well ive taken 2 anti-biotics cuz I figure it cant hurt and I notice a SMALL increase better (Just started yesterday).

I go to the dentist tommorrow and im still wondering if I should just cancel sense im so nervous at the moment if ill need a RCT or pulling it.

If anyone has any other advice love to hear it, thanks.

I can't really follow your posts very well, sorry.

If it's only a bit tender when you tapped on it then I suspect that a simple bite adjustment would probably sort it completely.

Yea, I wanted to re-write the posts to make them more clear. I wrote it when I was highly nervous, upset, paranoid, and scared, and apparently not thinking correctly. So I do apologize for that.

Basically, I had two cavities on my bottom teeth. There was a cavity between each tooth, side by side.
One apparently rotted the other.
Anyways, got both of them filled on the same day, one went fantastically, feel no pain or anything. The other is a bit tender.
So I tried the tap test-bite pressure test. Small pain.
I have no pain to heat, some to cold, but I have sensitive teeth so I never drink a really cold drink too often.

A Basic summary.

Basically, called the dentists office, and they had the same suggestion you gave. Going in next Tuesday.

Once again, I am sorry for the blah posts. (That is why I numbered the questions, I had a feeling it was a big jumble of text.)

The good news is, it feels A LOT better, and it is weird how this outcome even happened.

Got a good night sleep, woke up, tapping it/biting it, to see how it is.

Literally NO pain tapping now. I hate to literally BITE HARD on the pen to still feel SOME pain-sensitivity. So I think Gordon, you were right on, I need to go in and have a bite adjustment.

Just wanted to post, I guess vent if no one even reads this. Sometimes it is good to do that, plus, no need to make a new topic.

Well still a bit worried though, BUT, instead of being totally nervous, I can atleast go back to my normal routine and not have it on my mind 24-7

Im curious how this can even happen though? Did the antibiotics help that much? Do some teeth take 3 weeks to a month or even 2-4 months do heal?

The antibiotics probably did nothing, assuming you did have the bite adjusted.

What are you curious about in particular?

I have not gotten my bite adjusted yet. Ill be going in on Tuesday to take care of that. Hopefully it will get rid of the little pain I have in this tooth.

The only pain I do have is if I bite down on something hard, like a pen. If I bite down on a pen, when I open up, I get a small dull pain sensation. Doesnt last too long, and it isnt near as bad as it was before.

It just seems right when I began taking anti-biotics and another pill it has gotten a little better, the pain that is. So I was hoping that has to be a good sign.


So I guess the only thing I was curious about was:

1. Just curious if the anti-biotics took away that much pain? I havent had my bite adjusted yet, and it does feel a good 50 percent better.

2. Do some teeth need longer to heal? Is it possible for a tooth to just need more time than normal? Maybe even 1-4 months, is that possible?


I guess that is all, plus, I dont understand why, but it makes me feel better knowing I have gotten a little better. Writing can be helpful, I suppose. Well, Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Don't think the antibiotics did anything really

Sometimes the bite can correct itself given a wee bit of time, if the tooth was only a bit high then your teeth could accommodate to it in time.
