Partial Denture Question

I have to get a partial denture and was wondering if anyone could tell me how long the process takes, start to finish, from the first appointment to the time I actually leave the dentist office with the partial. I know it is going to involve multiple appointments but just wondering what the time frame is. Also, if I have to have a tooth added to the partial later on, how long am I without the denture? I had one appointment where they did the molds for them and a week later I went in had the teeth I needed extracted and the partial was give the same day of the extractions. This allowed me not to be with a gap for any period of time. If you need additonal teeth added I am told it can take anywhere from 24 hrs to 3 days.

Thank you for your quick response! My case is a little different than yours in that most of the teeth (for the partial) are already gone. I just had another extracted about a week ago and I still have one more to go. That being said, the dentist said I should wait until I have the last tooth extracted (it does not bother me at all) before he does the fitting for the partial and he does not want to do an immediate denture. It is not so much a vanity thing, but the fact that if I have to wait for the last extraction, I won't be able to chew very well as the missing teeth are scattered between the right, left, bottom and top. I would prefer to get the partial done now and add a tooth to it later, but I don't really think the dentist wants to do that. I do not want to be without teeth or the partial for any great length of time. Dentist told me the whole process would take about a month, which I thought was rather long, so was just wondering what other peoples' experience has been.

This rather depends on how many teeth (and which teeth) are on the denture, on the turn around from the dental lab that makes your dentist's false teeth for him and on how booked up your dentist is. So many variables that any advice you get from here is almost certainly going to be wrong...

Thank you for that info Gordon. Can you tell me then, assuming that everything goes as it should, how many appointments am I looking at, minimum? I'm guessing a minimum of 3, but never having gone through this, I'm really not sure what to expect.

It depends again on how many teeth are involved and where in your mouth they are and on your dentist's preferred technique, the absolute minimum is 2 stages.
