I had a scale and polish done. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be but still uncomfortable at times. My gums are now bleeding which sucks. They are also sore so I’m feeling a little sorry for myself.

I also had a filling in my front tooth and I have to go back in a few weeks for another few fillings. Been prescribed fluoride toothpaste and been told to buy an electric toothbrush and water floss/water pick. Is there anything else I should know about the aftercare for bleeding and sore gums?

Hi Samereynolds,

sorry to read about your bleeding gums, sounds quite unpleasant. I could imagine this is a bit scary and you may feel like things are worse for now, but it really is just a phase. You will be fine in few days. Until then, the most important thing is to keep on going with careful flossing and brushing, despite the soreness and bleeding. We have a very extensive article about looking after your gums here.

All the best wishes and a speedy recovery!:clover:

I’m definitely a little nervous about brushing/flossing my teeth tonight. I’m going to do it but it’s kinda scary because my gums are sore and they’ll probably bleed too. It makes me feel a little better that this is only a temporary problem

It's kind of counter-intuitive, to brush and floss if it bleeds, right? Because we learned if something bleeds we should leave it alone.. well, gums work differently in this. Hang in there, don't stop flossing and you will see things get better in few days.
