My appointment is the 15th, or Wednesday, two days from now. I had a previous appointment that I canceled. I had a consult with a new surgeon and clicked better with him and made plans to have them removed. I’ve posted before, I’m incredibly scared of being sedated but under his advice agreed to it. I’m doing better this time than I was last, but I’m still having bouts of crying fits and anxiety. I want this to be over. I feel like such a pain to everyone around me for being so scared and obsessed with it. I know I have to follow through this time.

I was prescribed Xanax to take the night before and morning of. I’m a bit nervous about that too but afraid if I don’t take it I won’t be able to let them stick me.

Pep talks needed for people with similar experiences and fears.

Dear Frightenedrabbit,

please rest assured that you are not the only one scared half to death on having your wisdom teeth removed. I work in a dental practice and believe me, I had never seen a person who would be happy about having to have their wisdoms out. This is such a huge thing even for people who do not consider themselves phobic. Even one of our dentist has still her wisdom teeth in because she is scared to get them out! So far to your worry of being a pain for anyone around you.

Sadly there is no way to just take the fear away from you, so maybe the best thing to do would be to allow yourself to have this anxiety. I know it feels terrible and you just want it to be over, but try not to push yourself too hard. If you need to cry, then just cry and if you feel terrible, then allow it to be. If there is anything you enjoy doing or some treat you can give yourself to feel a bit better or to distract yourself, do so. It might be also a good idea to plan something to reward yourself after the procedure is done.

All the best wishes, keep us posted and I am sure you will soon get some replies of happy people who went through sedation.

Everything went so great! I’m sore and I want to eat everything I can’t but it’s done! Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery!

My advice to anyone who is scared is to find a doctor they truly trust. I was frightened but my doctor was there to walk me through everything. He was genuinely interested in my case and I didn’t feel like just another number. He prescribed me Xanax to help me get there and then the staff were nothing but kid. A kind doctor is EVERYTHING in overcoming your fear. I’m so grateful that I plan to send a thank you card and flowers once I feel a bit better!

Congrats and well done! :jump: Lovely to hear that your doctor took such a good care of you. It's amazing how a kind caring dentist, a bit of trust and a bit of time can change the game completely.

I am sure that a card and flowers will make their day.

All the best wishes, recover soon and again, very well done.

So glad to hear it went well!
