right my next problem is my stiches have not come dissolved at all to come out and they r driving me mad they are quite uncomfortable and are pulling it will be a week tommorow and i was told they would probably be gone in five to seven days i know i am being impatient but they are annoying me now which i don't need as my dry socket is bad enough on it's own i am sorry i keep coming on here and moaning but i don't know where else to go for these questions as i have no dentist! so my question is apart from lots of salt water washes is there anything that i can do to ged rid of these annoying stiches??? please help!!!

No expert, but when I have two stitches in my gum (a long time ago), I was told DON'T mess with them. As annoying as it is, its what is holding the tissue together.

Everyone is different when it comes to absorbing stitches. I've read 5-10 days, I know in my case it was more like 10 days and some people say two weeks.

I had stitches that dissolved and the diden't really all dissolve until about 10 days/.

Although some people do find stitches annoying, they are there to do a job, but I think your dentist may have misinformed you about the length of time they take to dissolve unless they're super duper special sort of ones, because the normal period of time is 10 - 14 days for them to dissolve. Possibly though, he put them in too tight, hence the uncomfortability factor. I would have a word with the dentist just to make sure everything is going according to plan.

And if that doesn't work tie dental floss around his finger really really tight

I hate self dissolving stitches. Stupid things either take way too long or not long enough. Go back and ask the dentist to take them out for you, only takes 30 secs and doesn't hurt a bit.

My stiches dissolved pretty quickly, but I had a 3mm long piece of thread (or whatever you call it) sticking out of my cheek for over two weeks. It was obviously doing nothing anymore but it wouldn't come out. So I guess I agree with Gordon, in case getting rid of stiches in your mouth doesn't hurt.

i could not take them any more so at four this morning i took them out myself and my gums have settled a lot by today thank goodness!
i am not saying that i did the right thing though it's just as i am in soo much pain with my dry socket at the moment i can not let anybody but me near my mouth so i was the only woman for the job!!! :)

I just love DIY dentistry, welcome to the club!:sleepyjuice:
