Surgical broken crown removal

@ScaredyCat22 I feel better today. The pain from the injections lasted longer than the extraction. I can honestly say a surgical extraction is absolutely painless. The local anaesthetic is very strong and works quickly. Within a few minutes I felt nothing. The extraction process was quick too. Researching things on Google is not a good idea. You can scare yourself silly by doing it. I found the only real way to find things out is by sites like this one where you read people's true experiences. I hope anyone reading this will have their minds put at rest. A surgical extraction is not at all painful and doesn't always require cutting or drilling. I didn't need it at all.

I'm still resting today and will be doing so until the 3rd day to feel safe. I hope you are OK and not worrying too much about your filling in a couple of weeks. You will be absolutely fine too. I am 100% sure of it.

Let me know how you're getting on and get in touch anytime you need to chat.

@Lindylou1601 i'm glad you're doing so well. Now you see why I would rather have a surgical extraction than get a tooth worked on lol. Quickest most pain free appointment ever. I do think it's the injection that makes the jaw feel stiff after. Extraction sites heal fairly quickly.
I am very nervous over my upcoming appointment. Even if they tell me my tooth can be refilled, my last experience with that led to a cracked tooth and a lot of pain. I have to see my doctor on Tuesday for my high blood pressure and I am going to ask if he can prescribe me something for anxiety for my dental appointment so that I don't freak out and run away from the dentist.

@ScaredyCat22 I have had anxiety and depression for years. I was on antidepressants for many years but weened myself off them finally. I take Propanalol for anxiety and when I have an attack it works within an hour. It is the only medication I keep in case my anxiety strikes. It helps me so much. Anxiety is awful and something I dread returning. As for your filling. I understand totally your fear and dread after your previous unforgivable experience. What you went through was terrible but I honestly don't think it will happen again. Explain to your dentist your fears. Tell him or her everything. I did when I went. I told her exactly what I was feeling. It is because of our experiences that we have this terrible phobia. The phobia was caused by dentists who we put our trust in and who let us down. I honestly believe you will be OK but do speak to your doctor and ask for something for the anxiety. Sometimes the dentist can sedate you too. My friend always has sedation when she goes. I was going to take one of my tablets before I went but decided to explain my fear to her instead. She went through the entire procedure with me and assured me that I would feel no pain or trauma from the treatment. Please let me know how you are and what your doctor advises.

I used to take welbutrin for my depression but they said it was making my blood pressure worse. The only thing I ever had for the anxiety was 1 valium to get through the root canal. I will let you know what the doctor says about it tomorrow. Thanks for your support.

@ScaredyCat22 yes please let me know how you get on. We need as much help as possible with our phobia. It takes over our lives. I look forward to hearing from you as to how the appointment goes tomorrow.

@Lindylou1601 I will be on my way soon. I have anxiety over all things medical, not just dental so I am not looking forward to this appointment. How are you feeling? Any swelling?

@ScaredyCat22 just seen your message. I hope I'm not too late to wish you luck. I hope the appointment goes well. I'm feeling a little better today. Let me know how you get on at the doctor. I understand anxiety so well.

@Lindylou1601 Glad you're doing better today. I just got back. I did ask if I could have a low dose of valium for my dentist appointment and he did prescribe it for me to take one pill the night before and 2 the day of my appointment, but because I got so upset just trying to talk about why I needed it he also thinks I should start taking Lexapro all the time. He said it's not just for the anxiety, he said some people take it for PTSD, which I kind of probably do have because of the dentist. I told him I would try it but if it makes me feel sick I don't want it.

@ScaredyCat22 good I'm so glad you've sorted the medication out. It is so important that you go to your dental appointment feeling as calm as possible. The night before might be difficult for you like it was for me. I definitely think what you have is PTSD. You had a very traumatic and painful experience and it has lived with you for so many years. I can so understand how this fear dominates you. I am absolutely sure you will be fine. The filling will go swimmingly and you will feel absolutely no pain whatsoever. Thank you for letting me know how it went. I was checking my inbox often. Now you can relax a bit. The medication will help you so much and it will calm you down. I understand so much how anxiety and stress can take over our lives. I've lived with it for years. Please keep me updated to how you are and how the medication is helping. Contact me anytime if you need some support or just to unburden. I understand totally how you are feeling.

Thank you so much. I do think it is PTSD too because it is to the point that even when a commercial comes on tv for sensitive toothpaste or anything with a dentist in it I have to change the channel or if it is someone else's tv I have to leave the room. I still have nightmares about what was done to me.
I am not sure if they will even do anything to me at my appointment on the 13th or if it will just be an exam and an x-ray to see how bad it is. But I am still glad for the valium or I might not be able to make myself show up. Isn't lexapro what you used to take? Did you have any bad side effects from it?

@ScaredyCat22 when I lost a filling last year at my appointment they just put a temporary one in. I had to go back 2 weeks later for the proper one. I'm exactly the same as you about the adverts. I hate them too. We don't want reminding all the time. I read a post recently someone wrote and he was exactly the same as us. He's terrified of the dentist. He kept making appointments and cancelling them. Eventually he said he had made an appointment and was definitely going. He later posted that he cancelled that one too. I honestly believe you will be fine on the 13th and the filling will be sorted out. There are several websites like this one for people like us. It is a very common phobia. We are in good company. I'm glad your doctor helped you today with the medication. Stay in touch.

It does help a little to know we are not alone. Keep me updated too on your dental adventures.
I filled my prescriptions and I did start the one I'm supposed to take every day for anxiety. So far it just makes me tired. I am still stressing over my dentist appointment on the 13th.

@ScaredyCat22 I understand so much why you are stressing. It is always on my mind too. It is a hateful phobia and one I wish would go away. Until I went to that horrible dentist when I was 19 who did so much work I wasn't like this. We both had terrible experiences that changed us and created this misery. It can take a couple of weeks sometimes until we get used to new medication. The tiredness will probably pass very soon. I do hope it starts to help you with the stress soon too. I know exactly how you are feeling and understand so much your anxiety. I'm absolutely positive you will be fine on the 13th. I 100% believe it. Please stay in touch and message me anytime you feel overwhelmed. Please try to relax.

@Lindylou1601 I don't think I can handle this anxiety medication. It makes my insomnia worse and gives me a headache and nausea. I think I'm going to stop taking it. I will just take the valium on my appointment day. How are you doing?

@ScaredyCat22 yes if the medication doesn't agree with you then stop taking it and ask your doctor for something else. My Propanalol works brilliantly for me but I have struggled with some of the antidepressants I've been prescribed in the past. My uncle is having problems with his medication at the moment too. You still have a couple of weeks to go before your appointment so maybe you can try something else for your anxiety. It would be good if you could go to the appointment feeling calm. I'm OK thanks at the moment. I take it day by day. Let me know how you get on if you change your anxiety medication. Please let me know how you are.

@Lindylou1601 I will definitely be mildly sedated for my dentist appointment because I will take the valium when it's time to go. I had valium once before years ago, and it didn't make me sick, just kind of indifferent, like I didn't care what was happening. That would not be a good way to feel all the time, but I think it is the best way to feel at the dentist. I have stopped taking the anxiety pill because feel sick on it. I would rather be nervous than nauseous. I don't think I would want to start any other prescription right now. It's 11 days until my dentist appointment and the last thing I need is to throw up at my appointment if meds make me sick.

@ScaredyCat22 yes you are probably right. It's best that you stick to the Valium. If it makes you feel calm then that is all you need. Anxiety medication does the same thing. It doesn't take away the anxiety but it relieves the horrible symptoms. I have made another appointment for next month to have partial dentures now at the back. I think it's time. I'm struggling with eating and want to enjoy my food again. The dental surgeon said I've done well for my age but it's time now for a bit of help. I'm just waiting for my gum to heal then hopefully I can start the procedure. I'm so sick of teeth now. I hope you're feeling OK today. I know how it feels leading up to an appointment. It's a nightmare for so many of us. I feel like my life has been dominated at times by the dentist. Take care.

I am so sick of teeth too! I hope your new denture will make things better for you. I am counting down the days to my appointment with dread. I am having trouble thinking of anything else.

@ScaredyCat22 I'm not in a great place at the moment either. I still can't eat on the side where I had the extraction and the other side either because of gaps. I am absolutely fed up today. I thought after the extraction I would feel better but I don't. I just want dentures now so much. You will be fine when you have your filling. It won't be anything like your previous experience. I honestly know how you are feeling. I made myself ill over the extraction. The fear took me over. Then all the stuff about dry socket terrified me too. Years ago no one had heard of dry socket. Now it's everywhere. After my extraction I burst into tears in the dentist. It's the stress that causes us to be so ill. I know people who couldn't care less about the dentist. I so wish I could be like them. My brothers are like it. I am so like you and know how it takes us over. It's on our minds non stop. You will be fine though and you will get through the appointment and have no pain whatsoever. Can you ring the dentist and speak to them about your fears. Please let me know how you get on.
