Hey guys this is my first post on this forum.
I finally made an appointment with the dentist after about a couple of years of avoiding it.
I had pain in my molar a while back probably over a year or so. It was super intense but it went away so I ignored it. It recently came back and even worse pain this time. I finally got the guts to make an appointment with a dentist. I was also hesitant because about a month ago I lost all forms of insurance. So anything to be done is coming out of pocket.
Today is when I had the appointment. They took a few x-rays and then I saw and waited in the chair until the dentist came in and looked at them. He said there was not much of the tooth left to save. So it needed to be extracted but it was going to need to be surgically extracted because part of the molar was below the gum line. He gave me a prescription for Penicillin and Tylenol #3 and I was schedule for an appointment in 2 weeks. It was suppose to be 1 week but I won't have the money by then.
The invoice for the procedures to be done at the next visit read:
Code: D7210
Description:Surg Removal-Erupted Tooth Requiring Flap
Tooth: 31
I just wanted to know how long of a procedure this will be. Around how long the recovery time is. He said sutures would be required most likely so I assume there will be at least one follow up visit? Is this something that will require long term care? The reason I ask is because I will going into the Air Force on Dec 15th and I asked my recruiter(I'm required to let him know of any medical procedures I have done) and he said if I needed to keep seeing the dentist for too long afterward that MEPS would probably not clear me and my shit date would get pushed back really far and that's something I don't want. Also is this something a general dentist should be doing? When I first called to make an appointment the receptionist asked if I need a general dentist or an oral surgeon. I said I wasn't sure yet I wanted to have it looked at and see what course of action would be needed. It doesn't sound too complicated and he mentioned he had performed the same procedure on a patient the day before who had a lot less tooth erupted. The part about "flap" means that they will make an incision in the gum right? I guess I'm overall just really nervous. The last serious dental procedure I had done was a failed root canal which just ended in it being extracted.
