take two with my wisdom teeth and very afraid

I'm new here, so hey, everyone. I've been browsing these forums looking at success stories for a while but decided to register today and post.

The success stories got me to go to the oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth taken out, however, that didn't get accomplished once there. My heart rate upon entering the room was up at 127, which they didn't seem too concerned about, but when they put me on nitrous, my heart rate apparently went up in the 150s, so they had to stop the gas and reschedule me for the hospital. The oral surgeon was going to extract my teeth with IV sedation, but after my hr got that high, he thought he wouldn't be able to sedate me very safely, so he said it needs to be done under general.

The experience drained me. I have panic disorder and had been worrying about the appointment for quite a while, and was ready to get it out of the way. With general, I'm even more afraid because I'll have a tube down my throat and I'm scared of the disorientation and nausea upon awakening.

For those of you who've had general, what's it like? Is there anything I can ask or tell the doctors to make my experience more comfortable or anything? Can they give me anti-nausea medicine preemptively so I won't have to throw up?

I'm getting rescheduled to go some time in the next two weeks they told me...so I really just want to stop worrying somehow.

I was given something for nausea before having general anesthesia a few weeks ago. To make it more comfortable, the best thing you could probably do, is simply tell them you are nervous.

I had a GA for my extractions. I spoke to the anesthetist and explained my fears. I wanted to be put to sleep with an IV, I didn't want to be aware of anything down my throat or any masks on my face and I wanted an anti sickness injection- he did everything I asked him and the experience was brilliant.

Be prepared to go home and sleep for a while - although I don't know if that was the anesthetic or the relief

Just explain your fears and you will be fine .........

I'm so sorry you weren't able to finish the procedure the first time. Having to reschedule always increases the anxiety for me.

GA is a breeze. I haven't had the opportunity to use it for dental procedures, only major surgeries, but I'd take that over oral sedation any day.

All the scary stuff is done once you're out, and upon awakening, they can give you an anti-nausea injection. I always ask to have a vistiril shot ready because it works immediately.

Like April said, explain your concerns ahead of time. I'm sure they'll take very good care of you and you'll soon have it all behind you.
