Hi
Just been to the dentist after many years! The dentist told me among other things that the yellow stains on some of my teeth are a tartar build up and I must make an appointment with the hygienist, will the hygienist be able to remove the tartar stains!? Are the teeth that have the stains damaged underneath the build up!?
Many thanks!

Congrats on going back to the dentist!!!! :welldone:

Tartar build-up is pretty common, you can read more about it here. It can only be removed by the dental hygienist (not by brushing or flossing), so that's why it's good to have a professional cleaning twice a year.

The hygienist (and a good set of x-rays) will let you know if the teeth or gums need further work. If the tartar is recent, cleaning might remove the yellowing. If not, there are plenty of whitening procedures which can help restore the color if you're interested.

Good luck!

Hi pompeyfan :welcome: to the forum, I am not a dentist, and have no medical knowledge. You will be surprised at how nice and cleaner you teeth will look after the hygienist has cleaned your teeth.

Your dentist will be able to have another look after you have had the clean and tell you if there is anything else needed. Did the dentist ask you to go back after to see them? :)

Hi
The dentist did two fillings while I was there a couple of days ago and has me going to hospital to get the 2 back teeth on my lower jaw removed, is there a option to be knocked out when this is carried out at the hospital?
She then told me to come back and see her in 6 months, just wish I would of went years ago and could of saved some of the teeth.
The reason my teeth are in a bad state because when I was younger I missed an appointment to have my brace on the bottom set of teeth removed and the following day went travelling for a year and half, so that was the cause of the bad teeth.

You will be able to discuss with the hospital dentist about being knocked out for your teeth removing. Don't dwell on the what was, or what if. You have been very brave in going so far and you are getting treatment that you need now.

Congratulations on getting the fillings :jump::jump::jump: Your teeth will also feel lovely and smooth after cleaning.

I wish you Good luck with your future treatment at the hospital, you will be fine, it is a big deal to us when we have teeth extracted but to the dentist, they do it everyday so it is easy for them.

Best wishes :)
