Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

If she did book it yesterday,i doubt she'd been able to get an appointment for tomorrow. Unless the dentist had a cancelation :-/

Tbh for all i know she may have booked it months ago and yesterday was nothing to do with a dentist ? :-/

This 'i' is freaking me out loads. [smiley=scared.gif] Again could be nothing to do with me, just don't know :-?

She's been weird around me today, feels like she's hiding something from me.

Like i said thankgod i have a Car and i can make a quick escape if necessary !
I'm at work till 1.30pm and not coming home till 5pm when the Dentist shuts.

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

well, you could perhaps casually mention that you noticed the "I" and found it to be odd and was just curious as to what it meant??? still might not solve your problem, but it's worth a shot and at least you could lay your mind to rest about that!

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

hi issy [smiley=hugging.gif] [smiley=hugging.gif] [smiley=hugging.gif]

havent chatted for a while......

thinking to self here.... if you asked your mum and she said yes, she made you an appointment, maybe that will give you time to go see the doctor for some oral sedation before your appointment?

i had that a couple of weeks ago, and it was 23 YEARS since i had last been anywhere near a dentist!! ok, it wasnt easy, but i slept and rested well the night before, and on the actual day i was ok going there, got a bit edgy at the door, and anxiety took over when i saw the chair, but it was still enough to make me sit in the chair, face the dentist and actually explain it all too him. the anticipation is always worse, thats what i find.

i took 5mg of diazepam the night before and another 5mg an hour before the appointment, and the doctor very kindly gave me enough to see me through the next few visits, which i will of course inform the dentist that i have taken beforehand.

its just something you could maybe consider, believe me, i know what fear you are going through, as do most other people who posted here.
luckily some have began the journey, some are still contemplating it, me? i have begun it and cant wait to get to the end of it now!!

take good care [smiley=hugging.gif]

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Wellll. I finally plucked up the courage, and asked her if anything is happening tomorrow afternoon, and she said NO. Dunno if i believe her :(

I also told her i'd be out all day and she didn't say anything. Sooo i'm kinda thinking i don't have an appointment tomorrow [smiley=jumping.gif] [smiley=jumping.gif]

So that's a MASSIVE relief, but it doesn't take away the tettor i'm feeling. Coz the appointment could be on Thursday [smiley=scared.gif]

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Glad to hear you're feeling a little bit relieved for now. Unless ... it's Thursday now -- any news?

Can definitely relate to feeling it's wonderful to not have an appointment ::) I remember feeling pleased when I was home from uni, and would find there wasn't an appointment available for the whole holiday.

But ... you do need to make an appointment, don't you? I know you've been working up to that, writing an email etc. Perhaps it's important to you that you do it yourself, for a feeling of achievement maybe? There's also deciding whether the stress of an appointment being sprung on you is worse than the stress of watching a date approaching. Have you and your mum talked about that?

Thinking of you.

She's booked me an appointment,for the 26th July [smiley=scared.gif] [smiley=scared.gif]

It's with my old Family Dentist :scared::cry:

I know it isn't for ages, but omg i feel sick and completely petrified

Mum told him how phobic i am and he suggested that we only have a chat. And i don't even have to go into his actual Room.

I know i won't be able to go and will end up cancelling it [smiley=ashamed.gif]

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Issy,

Try not to think about cancelling it right now. July 26th is a long way off, give yourself some time to get used to the idea. First off, it's not an appointment to have any work done. You probably won't even have to open your mouth. Keep telling yourself, "what's the harm in just meeting him to say hi?" If you aren't comfortable you can leave and if you feel horrible after the meeting you don't have to go back. It really won't be much different than if you met him in a coffee shop and sat down to have a chat about what he does and how you feel. Especially if you don't even have to go into the treatment room.

You can do this Issy. Leading up to my first appointment I would take long walks every day and spend time imagining in my head the ideal visit. I would think of how I wanted it to go and by the end of the walk I would feel more relaxed. I found that I would only get nervous when I focused on all the things that scared me. By reminding myself that the first visit wouldn't require any kind of work and that I didn't have to go back if I wasn't comfortable it really made it easier to go.

We are all here for you!

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Hi Issy...Pam is right, try not to think about cancelling just yet. It sounds like the dentist really understands you are afraid and is willing to help you feel comfortable about seeing him. Take some time and write down everything that frightens you about the dentist and give that to the dentist when you go. That way he will be able to address all of your fears. If you are not comfortable with his response to your fears, you do not have to move forward with treatment and can look elsewhere.

You mentioned that he is your old family dentist, how did you feel with him in the past?

He also suggested i write all my fears down for him to read.

I stopped seeing him 11 years ago ! I've never felt comfortable with any Dentist - not even as a young child. Was always dragged in crying by Mum :(

I'm sooo tempted to cancel right now - Coz i'm panicking like hell and been sick
Omg,if i'm this bad now - i'll be awful and hysterical as the time gets closer [smiley=ashamed.gif]

I really want to cancel it now, coz then all this anxiety will go

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Hi Issy,

I sent you a pm. :grouphug:

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

I got it, thankyou [smiley=hugging.gif]

I feel soo angry with Mum,coz she went behind my back and booked me an appointment. but i told her never to do it

She also keeps saying, i've got to go and she's gonna force me [smiley=scared.gif]:cry:

I'M SO SCARED

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

 I think i'm gonna cancel now. I just can't cope with all this atm.

Having constant Panic episodes and can't keep any food down [smiley=ashamed.gif] :(

I always knew eventually the time would come for me to see a Dentist - But i'm not ready yet - tbh i don't think i'll ever be ready.

I'm feeling so awful atm and feel stuck - because whatever i choose to do, it's gonna cause MASSIVE anxiety and hysterical panic

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

It's still such a long way off....can't you try to hold out for at least a week or two? Give yourself a timeline and if you find that it's still too much for you then you can cancel your appointment. It's like you said, you are going to feel this way either way so why not try to stick it out.

You are dwelling on it and that's what is making you so anxious. Why don't you get together with some friends or plan something for the week-end to try to take your mind off of it.

I'll tell you why I'm trying to push you into keeping this appointment, even if for now. You mentioned that your Mom made the appointment and really wants you to go. If you cancel I'm afraid you are going to spend every day second guessing her every move and worry incessantly that she is planning something for you. By trying to keep this appointment, you are in control. Each and every day you know that you will be the one to decide whether you are going to go rather than worrying about someone tricking you into going. Let it be your decision Issy, that will help keep you from panicking about the unkown.

We've all felt like this [smiley=hiding.gif], [smiley=scared.gif] and for some it took longer than others to face our fears. You have over a month to get used to the idea....try to allow yourself the chance to face yours!

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

As you said, At least by having an appointment booked, i don't have to worry about Mum constantly nagging me and booking a surprise appointment.

I'm not gonna cancel it yet, still have over a month to think about it.

I just (as u know) got really freaked out by all this. :scared:

In a weird way i feel tiny bit better knowing that i have got an appointment booked - And that i've got a while to think about it all and deciding what i wanna do.

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

And also, you Guys are being soo supportive. :)
I couldn't do any of this without all of you [smiley=hugging.gif]

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Hey that's what we're here for.....I consider it paying it forward. I had so much help that I'm determined to try to support others who are going through what I did. You'll do the same thing...just wait and see! :D

I'm glad to hear you are going to at least give it a little time. It's much better to be in control than to worry about the unknown.

You can do this!!!!!!

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Does anyone know anything i can take for sickness ?

Since mum booked this appointment, i've had constant nausea and been unable to keep any food down :( [smiley=ashamed.gif]

Really seriously can't be like this until my appointment :( [smiley=sick.gif]

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

Re: Think Mum went to Dentist & booked me appointm

I'm off to my Gp tomorrow. Hopefully she'll be able to give me something for my sickness / Nausea. :)

I'm also gonna tell her all about my anxiety and phobia of the upcoming appointment. I'm praying she will have some solutions and things i can do to relieve my anxiety :)

Although i'm completely petrified - i'm feeling bit better and more in control, now that i'm actually doing something constructive about it :)

Will let you know how it goes.
