Four hours from now I will be in the chair and probably half crying.
I'm so afraid, this appointment was pushed foreward by my guardian figure, and now I'm really afraid as it was unexpected! My anxiety is through the roof!

I am getting many cavities filled today in my front three teeth that have been bothering me for ten years. I'm really scared of the needle. They're going to give me gas, and I've never had that, so I'm scared of that too! I was told by a friend that gas doesn't do anything, and I will still feel a lot of pain. Especially from the needle. The last time I was at a dentist I got lectured for crying from needle pain. It hurt SO bad and it made my eyes twitch after it numbed everything. I'm so scared of this happening again.

Two holes in my teeth are really deep, and so they might touch my nerve. But I don't have any pain from them, just sensitivity from the air and cold, I was told that the root could be dead, but I kept flicking my teeth with my finger (not recommended I'm sure :() and I could feel that like any other tooth. It didn't feel different... but I guess I'm not the dentist.

Really hoping I only have cavities to be filled. I don't want a root canal today, or two.
I'm so scared. Guys, what does laughing gas feel like? I have searched around and people say different things, and my friend said it didn't do anything, so I'm so nervous. Is there a point? What if they oversedated me because of my low weight?

Please help!

I've never had laughing gas so I really don't know, but it is meant to relax you so you feel less scared and therefore less pain. I hope your appointment goes well. Just try to imagine what it will be like when it is over and the relief you will feel at having dealt with it.

oh you poor thing, I know how you feel!

But try and be brave , I try to breathe deeply, stay matter of fact, and close my eyes!
I know that's easier said than done, but its how I manage.

Do you prefer the dentist to be really soft and gentle or matter of fact and quick?

Hi everyone!
I'm back after my appointment and my face is still very numb.
They ended up doing a root canal and it was the weirdest feeling, I felt the brush thing they used to clean the tooth out vibrating through my jaw.

I never had any pain and the root was not dead, it was just a close cavity.
In the end it was 960$ or so. The gas was OK, but I dont know if it helped or not.
The numbing gel and injection went REALLY quick, it was the quickest that's ever happened to me.
Maybe that was the gas doing that. :(

The next appointment is for another tooth that might be the same.
Gosh I dont know how I'm gonna pay it all. Scary! Guh. I dont think it went through my insurance at all.

I took some ibuprofen and gonna lie down.
Scared when I wake up its gonna be achey though!

I'm glad it's over for you at least for now and that it didn't hurt. congrats on getting it over with! there may be a little soreness when the numbness wears off but it shouldn't be too bad. the biggest pain is the one in the pocket book lol.

Thanks for posting an update! The best thing about dentist appointments is that no matter how afraid you were beforehand, it's all going to be over in an hour or two. If you can just get up the nerve to go to the office, then you've won half the battle. Even if you do end up needing another root canal, you'll know how to do it this time around.
