I am having my upper wisdom teeth removed Friday morning with just local after being reassured by my dentist that because my wisdom teeth erupted fully and came in straight that they would be easy routine extractions. My dental office has a "wisdom tooth specialist" who I'm assuming is just an oral surgeon come in on Friday mornings every week to remove wisdom teeth that don't require the person to be put under and while I'm comfortable with my dentist and hygienist, I've never met her which makes me nervous. My dental phobia has gotten better after having 10 fillings filled and two cleanings in the last year however the anxiety is still there and will make it's grand entrance on Friday morning when I go.

Is it true that upper teeth are easier to pull than lower? How long should I expect to be sitting in the chair and how long will it take to actually pull the two teeth? My dentist said two minutes but I'm sure that was an exaggeration of how quick it will be. I'm nervous about hearing the teeth however I'm going to bring headphones to listen to music during it.

I am having one of my top wisdom teeth out tomorrow!

It has not come through so will require my gum being cut. The Oral surgeon told me that they will make a cut and it will all be done in 5 mins from start to finish. A friend of mine had the same done and she said it was very quick as the top teeth are quicker to remove.

I am very nervous but resigned to the fact that it has to come out. I will post tomorrow to let you know how it went.

Thank you! I hope yours goes smoothly tomorrow. I know my top ones need to be removed, and I've been telling myself to just get them pulled before they start causing any problems.

Thank you.
That is the position I am in. It is pushing on my other teeth and causing problems and my teeth are beginning to move.

I have had 2 teeth implants and they took about 45minutes each to do.so I think I can cope with 5 mins. I am a bit worried about the pain after but as I said in another post I have a plan.

Whilst I cannot bear witness as I had my Wisdom teeth removed under a general anaesthetic (due to a lower buried, impacted one), I was told by the surgeon that both of the top ones came out in less than 2 minutes. I still have the teeth in a pot ?

i have had a molar removed more recently and it was slightly more complex as it had broken into several pieces, even so it came out in under 10 minutes and there was pretty much no discomfort afterwards.

Hope all goes well for you :clover::clover:

I had the top ones out and 2 minutes was about what it took. I was shocked they were out - it was so quick! Much easier than my fully impacted bottom ones that were a total nightmare and disaster.

You will probably be in 'The Chair' less than 30 min. They may look at X-rays and take a quick look at the teeth. Most of the time will be waiting for the local anesthetic to start working.

Well my wisdom tooth is out!

It was removed about 10 this morning and took about 5 mins from start to finish. The removal of the tooth itself took about 30 seconds, I was really surprised it was so quick. I took 2 painkillers straight away and put an ice pack on my face. The anaesthetic has worn off now and I am not in any pain, just feels a little swollen. I am still using the ice pack on and off and will take painkillers before I go to bed just in case.

I hope that it puts your mind to rest and that all goes smoothly for you

Quick update:

I have no pain at all. I have a slight swelling to my face and a tiny bruise. I have one stitch in the gum but can not feel anything.
I will carry on with all the instructions that the surgeon gave me and hopefully I will carry on healing without any problems.

good luck

Thank you for the reassurance and Millie I'm so happy it went well for you! My appointment is in exactly 2 hours and as anxious as I am right now, I keep telling myself that in 3 hours it will be over.

I'm half as wise as when I woke up. Having my wisdom teeth pulled was the easiest dental procedure, including a cleaning, that I've ever endured. I was in the office for a total of 25 minutes, and the majority of that was just waiting for my mouth to freeze. It took, literally, two minutes to pull both wisdom teeth. Now I'm sitting in my living room biting down on gauze which is the worst part.

The only complaint I have was the oral surgeon who pulled my wisdom teeth. I love my dental office (or as much as you can love a dental office), my actual dentist, and all the hygienist/assistants I've met however this oral surgeon who they bring in on Fridays to pull wisdom teeth left me self-conscious. She was great at what she did, pulling my teeth and making sure I was comfortable and it was painless, but she felt the need to comment on my overbite by saying "Wow. Did you suck your thumb as a child? Why didn't you have braces?" 1) Because braces weren't forced on my when I was younger and 2) Because I just purchased a condo and can't afford braces and 3) my teeth have never bothered me. My teeth are strong and healthy, and an overbite has never affected my quality of life so right now, braces aren't my top priority. My dentist and I discussed it and I told her exactly what I just wrote, and she's never brought it up again because she agrees with me so I found it unnecessary, when I was already terrified and on the verge of tears, to comment on my bite.

Excellent; I am glad the procedure went well, it must feel good getting rid of those 2 Wisdom Teeth so quickly and painlessly :)

As for the Surgeon, your teeth, your money and your choice plus you weren't paying her for her advice on other dental matters, as you say as long as your teeth are healthy and you are happy with them then her opinion doesn't really count plus you are unlikely to meet her again so I wouldn't worry too much ;)

Hope everything heals up OK; I'm sure it will be all fine.

So it has been four and a half days since my wisdom teeth were extracted and I was wondering whether it's safe to start gently rinsing with diluted zero alcohol listerine at night now? Both clots look well formed and I haven't had any pain beyond mild discomfort and there's no swelling. I know still not to spit forcefully.
