I've never had a scale and polish... What's it like.. I'm a nervous patient so what should I expect.. Does it hurt?

The sensation varies between people quite a lot.
Most people don't like the feeling much, it's a bit uncomfortable for some, some weirdos (like me) quite enjoy it.
If it's painful then ask your dentist or hygienist to stop and do something about it, this is the 21st Century, you don't need to suffer pain unnecessarily
