I've been on and off these boards the past few months. I had one tooth pulled in August. Ive had multiple other ones hurt. They say from grinding, sensitivity mostly.

Well, now another one started to hurt. IT start off as a sharp pain here and there when biting.... I think molar.... Well I'm not even 100% on that.... Well than my premolar next to it started hurting (was it this tooth all along? tooth pain is so hard to tell). It hurts when I chew foods. It almost feels like how a cavity would feel but I'm not really sure..... I do have a small hole on the biting service of that tooth and my grooves may be a little dark (I don't even know if this is a cavity or not, tooth pain confuses me)

Can a normal cavity cause pain just to chewing when eating? and sweets? I have multiple lines and small holes on both of these teeth, have had them for years.. Everything I read says pain when chewing has to be real bad things.... the pain isn't that bad but I can feel it and its making me not want to eat ya know? the teeth feel a little bit sensitive.

I'm so scared and frustrated. I severe from severe anxiety so now my mind goes to am I gonna need a root canal? get the tooth pulled? Is my tooth cracked? my mind goes to the endless bad things!!! is it something really bad???

I did get a biteguard made and I pick it up Tuesday so I will talk to my dentist about this new pain but now I'm at my wits end in fear again....... please give me words of wisdom?

Dear cnhand84,

sorry to read about your worries, I understand how anxiety triggering teeth issues can be and I am sure your mind is giving you a lot of horror scenarios.

First of all, there are many many reasons why teeth might hurt and a lot of treatments possible and not every one of them needs to be as bad as you imagine. It's good you plan talking to your dentist about this and I am sure he/she will be able to find a good solution for you. If it helps, I have had a painful molar for years, it would hurt on and off and I was sure it was a root canal candidate and the thought of it freaked me out even more. Long story short, my dentist fixed it with a funny fluid that he painted on the tooth. It was five minutes and I have no further problems. I also had a cracked tooth that caused me sharp unbearable pain whenever any food touched it and all that was needed was a filling. My point is, talk to your dentist and let him suggest a treatment, because everything you make up in your own mind will be much worse.

All the best wishes, enjoy your new biteguard (I have one too and just love it) and keep us posted
