I made it through my root canal today, now my mouth is sore but manageable. I can't take pain meds, is ice okay to use on my cheek? is rinsing with salt water okay with a temp. filling? i also forgot to ask how soon i can floss with a temp. filling, will be okay to start tomorrow/

Thank you,

Tammy

Glad you did it! I go in tomorrow to have mine finished. swelling is down so they can go back in. You can certainly use Ice. Just do 15-20 min on and than 15-20 min off, etc. soreness should go away in a few days To a week. Glad to hear things went well though!

My dentist advises patients not to use ice but rather a cloth put in cold water, just to make sure it won't be too freezing. It's mostly the care after an extraction to prevent swelling but if you feel it makes you feel better with the tooth then why not. Your temp filling should be on the tooth, not between the teeth so flossing should not be a problem.

Nutzforcats,

Hope you are feeling a bit better today!! and Evirochick.. really hope your last part of root canal goes well for you!! Let us know how you did..!!

How are you feeling today? My second part went well, they said everything looks great. I can’t believe I did it and didn’t cry! Happy we both made it through :)

i had pain last night but it was in my cheek (sinus) due to being open but thankfully it went away early this am so got some sleep, now i just have sore soreness but i can handle it. I think my original filling was not just on my tooth but also between my teeth so that was why i was worried about flossing, i will just be careful.

Glad you got your tooth finished! feels good to be through that. I"m just glad i can space out the next two things, going dec. 3rd for the filling but i'm not as worried about that.

Glad to hear that it went away! Always a good sign!

How soon should I get a crown done after a root canal?

no pain or issues with my root canal which is good:), a week tomorrow (dec. 3rd) i will have a perm. filling put in until i can get a crown done sometime early in the new year, I don't want to have to worry over the holidays about a filling coming out. My regular dentist isn't doing it so will have my new dentist(my current one is retiring next year and only working once a week)so abit nervous but i've had afew different dentists' in the past 10 years so am getting used to that, she is supposed to be very good with nervous patients so that is helping my nerves. After a root canal, this should be much easier. Will be glad when all is done but taking it one step at a time. I miss chewing on that side, eating salad and a bit worried about only chewing on one side (damaging my other molars but trying not to stress about that).

How soon should I get a crown done after a root canal? I keep reading different things so it gets confusing.

It depends :-) You need to chat with your dentist about it, there's a whole load of factors that affect the decision, sorry.

I go Monday for my filling, will be glad to get it done, just trying to remain calm. I had an issue with the dentist who did my root canal though, the gov't wouldn't pay for the rest of the amt. of my root canal (i'm on PWD in BC,Canada) so now they want another $160! I had them fax in the statement to the gov't to see if I can get other money to cover this as I also have to pay for a crown ($1200) soon, so have to wait to see if I can get extra funding. I can't believe the nerve of them, I already paid $220 towards it, the gov't paid $450 and they want it in January, I mean how nice of them to not want it right away but I just can't spare any extra now or in the new year. Just not good timing as I was trying to get into the spirit and this has made me angry.:(

went for the filling on Monday, took 1/2 an hour to get the temp. out but at least the white filling didn't take as long and i didn't need a needle or dental dam which was strange but all went well, was abit worried i'd swallow something but no issues. Glad to be over that step, easier than the root canal but still got nervous ! I will have my crown prep. done on Jan. 14th but am going to forget about that over the Xmas break. I have psoriasis on my tongue ( I have psoriatic arthritis) so am trying to find some type of treatment for that as it is getting annoying to me.
