I am having 12 top teeth pulled and immediate dentures put in on April 29. It was such a job scheduling the appointment around my families schedule and to when I could have help. It is 2 hours away. So that is a factor too as far as go back visits. But I do like them. They are always available by text and phone to discuss my concerns. The problem is I am so scared. It is all consuming me. I am having no sedation or any laughing gas. Just a heavy duty valium. They said trust them that is all I will need. And they have stressed to me to take my meds that day like they tell me. I am the last appointment of the day at 3. and they said I will out by 5. I can't believe that. I am scared of the actual extractions, afraid of the challenges of the new denture. Afraid of the fit. Afraid of the look. Afraid of the first time I see myself with no top teeth. I do not want to look like Mr. Ed. By the time , it gets here, I will be crazy. I so want to smile again. Pictures with me smiling, I can't believe that I will be able to that without being so embarrassed. Please someone tell me it will be ok. :scared::(

It's a big step and you should be proud of yourself taking that step. And sometimes taking a bigger step can be scary. Just think of the positive side of all of this and how you will have a beautiful smile! *Hugs I

It is quite a big step, and well done you for doing it,but you will be just fine,I took this same step some 15 years ago,its a bit sore after ,but nothing a couple of paracetamols can't sort out,but to be honest the dentures do feel sort of strange, and do take some getting used to.
I have since moved on to implants,as I had lots of bone loss so my dentures never did have a good fit from day one.
Lots of people I know have dentures, and haven't lost much bone so they fit great.
Just keep thinking of being able to smile again.

Years of smoking caused my bone loss, and I deeply regret I ever smoked,I stopped just over a year ago ,but unfortunately the damage was already done, but it will give my new implants a better chance.

So don't worry, and I wish you good luck with it.
All the best to you.

Hello sweetie and welcome

I am sorry to hear that you have to have a denture, but please take it from one who knows, you will be fine. I've had mine for almost two years now, and no it will never be the same as having a healthy set of your own teeth, but believe me, you will adjust, and have faith in your dentist who will do the very best for you in terms of fitting etc.

I did have IV sedation, and for me that was the way to go, but trust in your team, and you will come out the other side.

If you get a minute or two............ check out my original story 'I'm in a state of panic' and in the meantime, try not to :hug:

Take care

Kim
