What should the extraction site look like now?
I've just had a peek as I haven't dared to yet. And i can't see no blood clot. Is that normal the gum looks a normal pink colour and all i could see in the socket was saliva. I've got no pain and haven't since the tooth was removed.

Still haven't had a ciggy!:scared:

I caved and had a cigarette about an hour ago. I took gentle small drags off it. Tooth was taken out on Thursday at 2pm.

Another question, since the extraction my tongue has been coated and feels and tastes awful. I cannot get rid of it. Is this normal? Tongue looks a yellowy/brown colour and feels dry its horrible. I think i keep getting the taste of the odd bit of blood from the socket but nothing major. Is this normal?

I really don't know what the top would look like, I could never see my top wisdoms. My extracted molar is on the bottom and for 3 days it looked like a puddle of blood due to gravity. I would think as long as you don't see bare jaw bone or have signs of infection you are good.

I really don't know, I didn't have that problem. does it go away when you brush and use your salt water rinse? are you on any medications that could cause coated tongue? I don't think an extraction would cause it but I don't know for sure
it is normal to taste blood since the extraction can still ooze blood for a couple days

I think the taste is from me not being able to brush the teeth either side of the gap properly. I daren't brush too much around that area yet. I'm still getting the odd taste of blood too. My back teeth keep getting a funny coating on them. I'm very gently brushing that area but i can't get to it properly. I'm scared of getting too close to the extraction site.

I now need to book in for my other fillings. They have needed doing for too long - one of them is giving me grief when i eat especially if it is hot food and its on the side i'm having to eat on because of the extraction being on the other side. Problem is i can't really afford treatment until next payday at the end of the month. I'm also clenching my teeth a lot which isn't helping. Going to ring tomorrow and see when they will do it.

I also still feel nervous about going back for the fillings, i was hoping Thursdays appointment had kicked me into touch. I need to keep remembering the euphoria i felt leaving there after having the work done. I still feel shaky and sick thinking about having to go back for more treatment.

you can brush everywhere today, you can even (very very gently) brush near the extraction site
I still have that same sick feeling as you, even though my extraction went well I really don't ever want to go back.
For a while my dental phobia had calmed down to just dental anxiety and I was able to make myself go for regular cleanings and exams. but then my dentist fired my hygienist that I had been seeing for years and every time I went I would be starting over with someone new. None of them were very nice to me. I started skipping appointments, going once every 8 months, then once a year. I hated it and was terribly nervous but I was still able to force myself. Til all this happened to me with them breaking my filling and then them breaking my tooth. Now I'm scared to death all over again and never want to go back. If I had not gone for that filling I would still have all my teeth today.

I had a bit of food trapped, went out and bought interdental brushes and could feel something stuck in between the teeth behind the extracted tooth. I very gently got something out and hopefully that will do the trick now fingers crossed.

Scaredy - It sounds to me as though your last experience at the 'D' word was very unfortunate - please don't let it put you off. You had the strength to go.

Oh good, I hope you're all set now Betty
As for me, I just don't know if I will ever go back.

Re: Abscess - update been back for more treatment

Sorry guys haven't been around for a few weeks.

Anyhow, today i had an appointment for a filling that was needed. I had very little anxiety before my appointment and didn't have a panic attack once :jump:
The dentist said the gum was healing nicely from the extraction :)

The filling I had was a very deep filling close to the nerve, once he had finished he then proceeded to tell me that although looking at the x ray it looked like it just needed filling he wasn't sure whether it would need further treatment i.e a root canal  I have to wait and see whether i have any problem with the tooth to decide whether or not it needs more work. Since going my tooth now hurts! Is it normal to have some pain after having a deep filling?
Again he used the wand for numbing - it is amazing. Instant numbing and when i left my mouth was not numb.

I have a feeling i am going to have to call the dentist first thing in the morning. I'm hoping the pain in the deep filled tooth is normal after having such a deep filling done close to the nerve. BUT one of my lower molars right underneath has started really hurting. I think it needs a filling on it anyway but i can feel the pain come on and its intensity increases then subsides. It really is hurting when the pain comes on. I think it has a cavity in between two teeth, if i prod that area with my tongue it sets it off.

Unfortunately I cannot afford to pay for any further treatment until the end of the month. Today i paid £93 for the filling. I'm hoping if i call they may let me come to some sort of arrangement with them.

I'm so ashamed I have let my phobia over the last few years stop me getting treatment. If i had just had the fillings done when I was told they needed to be done (3+) years ago. My teeth wouldn't be causing me pain and discomfort now.

I honestly don't know if it's normal or not. I only know for myself having 8 fillings I never had any pain afterwards except for the last one, and that is the one that I kept going back to the dentist for and was in agony til I got it extracted right before new years eve. I know it can be normal to have sensitivity for a while, but severe pain is not normal.

I think I need further treatment on it although i can't work out if it is the upper molar that has been filled that hurts or a lower one that needs filling that hurts - or both? I'm also not sure if it is my 'bite' that isn't right although the pain does seem to come on whilst eating and isn't long lasting but it is hurting. Hot and cold gives me pain also upper and lower.

I'm trying to hold out til Monday to call the dentist. I had the filling on Thursday so i'm guessing it still needs time to settle. If i need a root canal I won't be having it done - i will just have an extraction. A- I can't afford a private root canal and B- my experience of root canals is that in the future they will just play up.

I'm sorry you're still having troubles and tooth pain Betty. It really sucks when you think it's finally over, only to have to go back to the dentist again. I'm still having troubles too and after all I've been through I really dread getting back in a dentists chair.

I'm upset as I wasn't at all anywhere near frightened as usual. I almost could have nodded off in the chair. I was hoping that the dentist was wrong and the tooth didn't need further treatment - the only other thing is i just paid £93 to have the filling done and it obviously needed more than a filling.

It is disheartening as I was hoping to get the work done once and for all after all these years of putting it off. It is my fault in a way i guess as if i had had this done years ago when it first needed it then i wouldn't be in this position now.

No sense beating yourself up over it, the past is the past and you shouldn't blame yourself.

I have been back today and had the tooth looked at. He's made it hurt more by testing cold air and water on it, it's been prodded and poked at and filed down slightly. He X rayed it as there is nothing visible for him to see and all looks fine on the x ray. He said it was possible my bite was too high as a certain area of the tooth is causing me pain not all of it, the pain isn't keeping me awake at night, isn't constant but hurts nonetheless! Although the pain has been pretty much constant since he's disturbed it! All my bottom teeth along the same side hurt and he said that is probably referred pain.

His conclusion fillings can take two weeks usually to settle and as i'm having pain it's a good sign that the nerve isn't dead? BUT if by Weds/Thursday this week i am still in pain then he would start RCT. I've told him I don't want RCT and will just have it extracted as it is an upper back molar that isn't seen.

I dunno - i was so proud of myself for going and having the filling done last week with no fuss. I felt 'normal'.

It's hurt a lot today since he has had a look at it. I have a horrible feeling another extraction is on the cards :shame: i know i am clenching though a lot. I'm not going to spend ages in pain though i just want my teeth sorting and if i have to call on Wednesday to make an appointment for an extraction then so be it!

I'm praying it is from me clenching though and the tooth needing time to settle.

I read your post on the dentist board too. I'm sorry you are having pain. It is not a good sign that the pain lasts long after being subjected to hot and cold. If it was normal sensitivity the pain from heat or cold would go away within a few seconds.

This is annoying me so much. After him aggravating it on Monday it hurt all day, yesterday it wasn't so bad and felt better. Today it has been fine no pain, no sensitivity to hot and cold and felt normal! But i was just sucking a lozenge and I got a sharp pain right up the middle of the tooth and it hurts again slightly. When i suck it causes a sharp pain?

Any ideas anyone?? It seemed to calm down and i was praying that the tooth was just aggravated from the filling.

That doesn't sound good :( have you called the dentist?
