FINALLY made an appointment

Finally managed it, emailed them and have an appointment for saturday at 10.15, which seams tooooooo soon, but at least i won't have time to worry myself into a frenzy at least, it has only taken me 6 months to do it but at least I did it and not my husband or someone. I want this root canal checked at least, I am just praying nothing else is wrong or I may just pass out and die. Which would in it'self sove the problem, so it wouldnt be so bad. x

Re: FINALLY made an appointment

I completely understand how you feel. I get chills just dialing the phone number. For me, I went to put a temporary filling in a broken root canal tooth, and ended up coming out with 10,000 dollars worth of dental work on teeth that I don't feel any pain in. I wish you the best of luck and hope they don't find anything else wrong with your teeth. [smiley=hugging.gif]

Re: FINALLY made an appointment

Thank you, that sounds horrible!!!!!!!! I must say I do find it easier to email to make appointments, I get a heart attack when I see the reply, but the day after tomorrow isn;t to long to wait, ALTHOUGH why is he FREE the day after tomorrow?????? does that mean he is no good???? They just can't win can they?? x

Re: FINALLY made an appointment

I know! That's the problem with My Dentist! He's always available! LOL! ;D My mother once said. "No offense doctor, but I don't like dentists." and the dentist said: "I hope it's nothing personal!" ::) Well...actually! Lol. I hated him, that's why I changed dentists. He was really cold and unfriendly. The one I have now is great! He makes you laugh, he's very accomodating, I like him, but I don't, ya know what I mean?! [smiley=drunk.gif]I'm going to be taking 3 Halcions the day of my extraction, etc. I hope It works for me..still feel like hiding behind a couch. [smiley=hiding.gif] This GIF is great! :) Am at work now, and can't think of any better place to be, certainly don't want to be there! Ha! I think your dentist is "free" because there are more people out there like "us"! Denta-Phobes! My husband thinks I'm crazy, but Hey, he can't tell me he's not afraid of anything...he just doesn't show it. Good Luck, I will think of you.
TTYL!

In my experience, waiting times are pretty much unrelated to a dentist's bedside manner or skill, and can depend on how the practice/office plans for unexpected patients, how far in advance they usually schedule, geographical area (dentist/population ratio), and so forth... if someone comes otherwise recommended, a very short wait doesn't usually mean anything :).

Re: FINALLY made an appointment

Well, I hope so. Going tomorrow at 10.15, feel sick. HATE checkups. Do you remember when the nit nurse used to come round to check your hair, and your head started to itch the minute you saw her?? Well, right now I don't have a tooth in my head that isn't aching! I will be glad when it is all over. I 'almost' in a perverse sort of way prefer knowing what will happen when I get there. I hate the unknown and waiting to hear dreaded words. i have asked for silent checkups, where he just notes things and tells me at the end, rather than reading out teeth numbers and words I would rather not hear as he goes. I hope he remembers. I am not keen on him, I have my husband booked in with the german woman, to see what he thinks of her. I would like to switch really. I am totally convinced this root canal has failed. I heard him say he wished he had more time when he was doing it, and then he told me there was some calsification. I would rather not know, then i would not have dwelt on it. I am going to go though, get it over with Might feel better if he x-rays it and it is showing signs of recovery, there hasn't been a single second in the last year I haven't thought about the stupid thing. Not in the best of moods tonight for sure.

Any of you that are going tomorrow too, good luck, I hope it goes well. there is strengh in numbers, so if we all manage to be brave it crosses to the others, that's what I think.

Re: What is the point?

OK, nearly ready. Got up at 6, did a deep relaxation cd, and had a bath. Palms are so sweaty I couldn't hold the deoderant can, had to put on rubber gloves to grip it enough to press the button! Only had one lot of the runs, and I have't been sick, so I think I am improving. Might even manage a little breakfast. Think I just want to get it over with. So wish me luck! x

Gosh, yes, I get that too. And when you see the dentist and he says "Any problems?" you look innocent and say "No" instead of "Well all my teeth hurt, but that's probably just cos I'm scared of you" ::)

Best of luck for today. 8-)

Re: What is the point?

Thanks! well I managed it, and did a lot better than normal, he remembered to do the silent checkup, and everything is fine. Although he said right at the end of the check up that my oldest filling will need to be replaced soon, and showed it me on the screen. he showed me how worn it was and how it had a dark circle round it. Which was too much information. Then the receptionist gave me an appointment for november and said if I thought the filling was causing problems I could email and they would change it sooner. I WISH she hadn't said that, just will focus on that now for six months, and it isn't causing me any problems. He didn't xray the root canal he did last time, I asked him to check it, he said it looked fine. Not sure how he can tell. But I did manage ok, I didn't shake and even managed to talk this time, so I am pleased with myself. Exhausted with the effort though. Pleased I went. It is horrible though, isn't it?? I am starting to forgive myself for being so scared, you would have to be crazy to look forward to it. Once again, thank you for the suport. It DOES help x

Re: What is the point?

Congratulations [smiley=jumping.gif] [smiley=party.gif] Penny...making the next appointment was a great move. Next time as well as the silent check-up, tell him you don't want to hear about any 'Coming Soons' and just want to know about stuff where immediate treatment would be advisable.
Poor dentists can't win really, can they...if they warn you in advance you go away and worry....if the first you hear of it is several check ups later, you question how could it have happened so suddenly if it looked fine last time :P.
Keep up the regular attendence and anything needed will likely be insignificant and straightforward anyway.

Re: What is the point?

Wow Penny! You came very far very fast...you should be so pleased with yourself. Definitely worth a treat, so put your feet up and pamper yourself this weekend!

Re: What is the point?

Good appointments today, it seems! Congratulations! I hope everything goes as you want it to from here on out.

Re: What is the point?

Thank you all. It was on the list, that I gave him orriginally, not to tell me about things in the future, to note them down but say nothing. Jon is going to cal in on his way to work next week and remind them. things did go better though, and I liked him a bit more this time. So thanks everyone. It means a lot to me x

THAT time again

I have an appointment saturday, can't believe it has come round already. I am still with the same dentist, not keen, but too nervous to move, he is really expensive too, can't really afford to see him. last time I had a check up, he said he was going to replace 2 of my fillings next time, they are over 20 years old, so it probably is fair, but I am not sure if that is happening saturday or not, been worrying about it everyday for the last six months, I actually would prefer it if they did just do it, would be so much easier than having to screw up the corrage twice. After having a leaking filling turn into an absess, i have been trying really hard to keep my appointments but I can't say it is getting any easier, had over a year of councilling now too, I feel sick at the thought of it, I wish it got easier for me, I read other peoples listings regularly and some face the fear and find ways to cope, the second I get there I feel six years old again. Just got back off holiday and I have a cough and jet lag, wondering if that is good enough reason to cancel, but if I cancel I could face another long period of not going, my longest was 7 years, caused by someone saying they were laving something for next time. i gave this dentist a typed list and one of them was not to tell me if he intended to treat something in 6 months, but he obviously forgot, one of the reasons i want to change. Now he has said it, I do want them done, I never want to get another absess. I just hope I manage to go, and they do them. After my check up the reseptionist made this appointment for me and told me that if i had any trouble with them to phone up and they would do them sooner, i have had no problem with them, before or since, do you think that means they will do them saturday? What is the point of waiting 6 months? Why not just do them last time. Honestly i don't get it, and I have worried every single day and now it is so close. I hate the not knowing.

Re: THAT time again

Hi Penny and :welcome: back,

that sounds like a right old dilemma! You're saying that you're not keen on your dentist AND he's expensive, yet you're too nervous to move. Is it because of fear of the unknown, or having to enter an unfamiliar environment? There may have been other dentists that have been suggested on the DentistFinder in the meantime (I can't remember your location). It doesn't sound as if you're a happy camper at present.

The usual MO for a check-up appointment is to do a check-up and cleaning (unless they have a separate hygienist who does all the cleanings), and to discuss any treatment recommendations, let you decide what you'd like to have done, and give you a treatment plan and schedule one or more appointments. Maybe this could be different in your case as you have already discussed this, I don't know. Could you ring the dentist and ask? That way at least you wouldn't have this uncertainty hanging over you.

All the best :grouphug:

thanks, I am not happy at this dentist, I keep saying I will keep this appointment, then find another, but I really hate starting again with a new one, but I can see i am going to have to. I have been trying to phone all day today to ask what is going to happen tomorrow, I will look on the dental finder again, see who else is in the sunderland area. I did have a good dentist once, then he left, so I do know how much better it is if you find the right one. Thank you for the suport. x

Not too bad this morning, so the counciling must have had some effect, I have had the runs a couple of times, and been up since 4, but compared to before, where I would shake from head to toe and throw up, it is a big improvement. Also not taking any valium either, I have found that once I get there, I am usually ok, it is making my legs walk from the car that is the problem, and when I get there I loose the power of speach. Over all though, I do think the coping methods and the talking, getting things out of my system has had some effect, in the UK counciling is avalible on the nhs, it may be worth a try for others. I even managed to sleep a bit last night. Don't get my wrong, my stomache is doing bundgy jumps, but I KNOW I will get there. Keep reminding myself, a filling is desirable, far better than an absess. I wish he had the pink water, I know it is silly, but the pink water always meant it was nearly over, he only has water and it is not the same. You have to look forward, forward to walking out knowing you have managed it, glad you are taking possitive steps. Thanks to suport groups like this we can all do it, one step at a time, just pray my legs work today! x

Hi Penny, it sounds like you've made some impressive progress! And hopefully those legs *will * work today ;).

(sorry I'll be off later and won't be back until Thursday, but will catch up when I'm back!)

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment :)!!
