OOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW i just got back from the dentist -_-.

i was only supposed to get scaling....but they ended up doing half my root canal too.........im not sure why i let them do it...but its done now -_-.

the numbness is starting to wear off...its starting to hurt. they just told me to take some tyenol/advil for it. owowow. i'm bleeding a lot. they only did the left side of my mouth for scaling. i go back in 2 weeks to get the right side + rest of root canal done. its starting to feel so sore, and my left cheek is puffed up like a blowfish. and i'm drooling like a baby -_-.

one thing i didnt like was that when the periodontist was looking at my mouth, she was like "oh wow you got a mountain of tartar. hey dr. whats-his-face, come look! its a mountain!" i was thinking what the heck, am i some sort of freak show for you to show everyone? geez.

oh, and 2 hours before my appointment, my friend messaged me and said "i know youre going to the dentist today.....ugh....i hate the "tools" that they use...aren't you scared?" i simply told him to GET AWAY FROM ME and STOP talking to me because how can he be so inconsiderate and freak me out like that hours before my appointment. *screams*

i should go rinse my mouth again, theres a very unpleasant taste in my mouth, like sour milk. my left side is throbbing now...so sore...maybe a tyenol wont be so bad after all. thanks for reading my rant.

I am proud of you...because you got through your appointment! CONGRADULATIONS!!!!

Awww...sounds like we were both in the dreaded "chair" today!

I'm sorry to hear you had such a rough appointment Starsun! The way the periodontist acted was completely inconsiderate, unprofessional, and unacceptable and she should not have made such rude remarks about the condition of your mouth! She should realize that remarks like that are what keep people from coming back! Well I hope your feeling a bit better anyways and the next appointment goes more smoothly for you! Take care!

I think you did extremely well at your appointment, especially as they started doing something which you hadn't expected yet, but then perhaps that is for the best because you didnt have time to dwell on the thought of Oh my God they're going to do the root canal today. Sorry it was a bit rough going but you've come out the other side and that is a success story. It's just a shame that people make careless remarks which only adds to the fear or worry. I don't think it's ever meant deliberately, in the case of your friend, probably thinking it will be of help, but there's no excuse for the periodontist's words - again though she probably didn't realise the effect it would have on you. Keep taking painkillers to stem any pain, and congratulations.:grouphug:

Do you mean hygienist rather than periodontist because let's face it, you don't have to be particularly bright to become a hygienist but a periodontist should definitely know better. Congratulations and commiserations in equal measure.

oh yes, my mistake. it was a hygienist. a periodontist was supposed to do my scaling but she was not there that day so i got stuck with the hygienist instead. the hygienist was nice and all, she asked me a lot of times if i was feeling ok, and that i was doing a very great job. but just that mountain remark and another remark she had made saying that it usually just took her about 10 minutes to do this, but it took 40 minutes for me.

oh well, i shouldnt even keep those remarks in my mind.

at first when they took out the needles i wasnt that scared because i remember a few of you said that they put numbing gel on you first. all i felt were little pinches. but the thing is, when i got up after they were done numbing me, i was shaking so much! [smiley=scared.gif]

i did not take any tyenol or anything because i just dont like taking pills. they put some temporary glue (i dont know if thats what you call them) on my root canal, it's feeling quite sore but im trying to make it through without taking any pills!

thanks everyone for the support. i go back in 2 weeks!

Brit, I do hope not many hygienists are going to read your post, they might take offence! Hope you're not having a hygienist soon who is likely to read this either.

My quote was actually carefully worded ...it doesn't mean that all hygienists are not bright just that the educational level required to become one is less than for a periodontist.
My hygienist is bright [smiley=cloud9.gif]...there is no way she would make such an insensitive remark...the whole Doc X come look thing...smacks of immaturity. Apologies to all the good hygienists out there ;)...if you can't take anything but praise then, don't visit a dental phobia forum....
