@smirked thank you so much for your message. Both of us are terrified and have a phobia. Scaredycat has given me so much support and I value her messages so much. Having the wrong tooth filled was terrible. I would have been furious.

I want to get my appointment over so much but now I'm worried about dry socket. It never ends.

ok a word about dry socket.. it is not that common unless you are a smoker and you already said you aren't. Also it can happen from drinking through a straw, so don't do that either. The day of your extraction you can not swish out your mouth or spit because that can disturb the clotting process. The next day you can brush normally except leave the extraction site alone. Because you are going to have stitches that also reduces your risk of dry socket. And if worse came to worse (which it won't) and you did get dry socket you can go back to the dentist because there is a dressing they can put on it which instantly relieves the pain. But you will not need it. Edited to add that you have had extractions before and never had dry socket so you are not prone to getting it. You will be fine.
I did take care to eat soft food and not chew near the extraction site while it was healing. Also I was a smoker and still did not get dry socket.

@Lindylou1601 I recently had, uh... Quite a few teeth removed 😂 and I did not experience any dry socket. I think it is pretty uncommon. You just have to take care, as mentioned by @ScaredyCat22 .

@smirked thank you so much. My brother told me had a tooth extracted when he smoked and didn't get it either. Thank you for your message. I so appreciate it.

@ScaredyCat22 thank you again for your support. I guess I should stop reading things online and scaring myself. I will take your advice definitely.

@Lindylou1601 Yes absolutely stop looking for things that might go wrong. Instead start thinking about what little treat you are going to get for yourself when it's over. You need something to look forward to. It helps to have something positive to think about.

I'm getting in a state again. I can't stop thinking about the procedure on Saturday. It's all I can think about. You are so right though. I must stop making myself ill. People have this done all the time. I know I'm over reacting. Thank you.

I understand. I am the same way freaking out about my appointment and it is still 2 weeks away. You will be ok. Start planning what you will eat when it's over, stock up on soups or applesauce, chocolate pudding any soft foods you can think of that you enjoy. Just keep picturing yourself at home being proud of yourself that you got it over with. In fact I think I see you there curled up on the couch with a blanket and a cup of soup, relaxing while you watch your favorite movie. Try to see yourself doing that, see how relieved you look that you got it taken care of.

@ScaredyCat22 thank you once again for your support. I've bought some soups and yoghurts. I've also bought some strong over the counter pain medication. I'm getting an Uber home and I will spend the day resting and the next couple of days too. My dentist rang me today to ask if I was still going and to have the money available. I'll be glad to get it over with now so I can move on. I just want the tooth out. I will let you know how it went. You only have a couple of weeks to wait now too. The waiting is just awful. Thanks again for everything.

@Lindylou1601 I will be thinking of you, do pop in and let me know how your appointment was. I will be looking forward to hearing that all is well. :) You might not even need pain medication but it is food to have in the house just in case. Do you have an ice pack? putting some ice on your jaw when you get home can help too, because icing it will keep swelling down and the less you swell the less pain there is. If you don't have an ice pack you can take a damp wash cloth and fold it into a small rectangle and put it in your freezer in a plastic bag. I do that with a sandwich sized bag.

@ScaredyCat22 thank you for the advice. I will put a face cloth in the freezer like you suggested. I will definitely let you know how it goes. I actually feel quite ill today over it so I need to get it over with now. Will be in touch soon. Take care.

@Lindylou1601 I just noticed I said *food* to have instead of good to have in the house LOL, but now that I think of it food is good too. I hope I made you laugh or at least smile at my silly typo. I will pop in to check on you tomorrow. Sending you many hugs. I am there with you in spirit, holding your hand.

@ScaredyCat22 oh thank you so much. I've put a face cloth in the freezer in a bag like you said. I'm going to spend the afternoon in bed resting on high pillows like they suggest. Thank you so much for your kind words. I will think of you holding my hand. I'm going on my own so I won't feel so alone now.

Yes propping up on pillows is best, I'm sure they will have other instructions for you too and sometimes they prescribe antibiotics just to make sure no infection occurs during healing. You will do great.

@ScaredyCat22 thankyou. I haven't hardly slept all night. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks for your support and advice. You have helped me so much.

@Lindylou1601 Sending more hugs and positive thoughts that all is going well for you.

@ScaredyCat22 I'm back. I burst into tears after the extraction. The stress of the past 2 weeks finally caught up with me and it became too much. She was wonderful. The tooth came out in pieces but no stitches or cutting the gum. It was very quick and painless. She told me to wait a few months before I start work on partial dentures for the gum to heal. I will have to live with gaps for a while. My bone loss is an issue too. I'm just glad to be home now. Thank you for all your support. It would have been so much worse if you hadn't been there. You were more help than you could possibly know. Stay in touch. I want to know how you're getting on too and want to help as much as I can. Bye for now. With love ❤️

I'm so glad it was a painless success! you did great! I bet part of the tears was just relief that it's over. Now you can rest and relax for the rest of the day.
