IV Sedation Experiences

I did it after 15 years and it feels great!

So, I had not been to the dentist for 15 years. I knew I needed some work, I was not in pain but knew that the pain would come at some point if I didn’t sort it out.

Took two weeks trawling the internet to find the “right” dentist and had a check-up a couple of weeks ago. I needed 3 fillings, two of them were quite big, and I needed a molar out which was broken at the gum line and a big clean and polish.

I had IV Sedation last Wednesday and had been so worried about it, and there was no need.

My dentist is amazing. I was given a drink when I got there, which totally chilled me out, waited about 40 minutes and then went through to have the IV set up. I was so chilled out. I really did not care that they were going to stick a needle in my arm. They had put some numbing cream on my arm 20 minutes or so before I went in and I did not feel anything, not a scratch, nothing.

I remember tiny snippets but nothing really. It was a piece of cake, and if I had to have it again, I would with no concerns at all.

I am very phobic, I was in tears when I went for the check-up, shaking, felt sick. If you have the sedation, the hardest part is walking through the door on the day.

Anyone out there who is going to have IV Sedation and is worrying about it, please stop right now. It’s fantastic. I almost enjoyed it!!

Now I have a clean mouth and feel so much better about that, and I will go for my check-ups and whilst I will probably always have this awful phobia, I know that I can manage it with IV Sedation. Yes, it’s expensive, but it is worth every penny.
